Ingredients:

  • 1 package (14.3 oz) Oreo Cookies (original flavour)
  • 8 oz block Full-fat Cream Cheese, fully softened
  • 16 oz bag Melting Chocolate Wafers or Melts (Semisweet or Milk Chocolate)
  • 1 teaspoon Coconut Oil or Shortening (optional, for thinning chocolate)
  • 2 tablespoons Reserved Crushed Oreos or Sprinkles (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cookies: Separate approximately 12 cookies and set aside for later garnish. Place the remaining Oreo cookies (including the cream filling) into a food processor.
  2. Create the Crumb: Pulse the cookies in the food processor until they are reduced to a very fine, sandy crumb consistency.
  3. Combine the Dough: Transfer the crumb into a large mixing bowl. Add the fully softened cream cheese. Mix thoroughly using a sturdy spoon or spatula until a uniform, sticky dough forms, ensuring there are no streaks of unmixed cream cheese.
  4. Initial Chill: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for 30 minutes. This firms the dough, making it easier to roll.
  5. Portion and Roll: Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Using a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop, portion out the chilled dough. Quickly roll each portion into a smooth, compact ball (about 1 inch / 2.5 cm in diameter). Place the finished balls onto the prepared baking sheets.
  6. Final Chill (Crucial Step): Return the baking sheets to the refrigerator and chill for a minimum of 60 minutes. The balls must be very firm and cold before dipping.
  7. Melt the Chocolate: Place the melting wafers and optional coconut oil into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted. Do not overheat.
  8. Dip the Balls: Working quickly with the chilled truffles, insert a toothpick or a small fork lightly into a truffle. Dip the truffle completely into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip back into the bowl.
  9. Transfer and Garnish: Gently slide the dipped truffle onto the parchment-lined sheet. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the top with the reserved crushed Oreo crumb or chosen decoration.
  10. Set: Allow the truffles to set fully at room temperature, or chill briefly (10 minutes) until the chocolate shell is completely firm and snappy.
  11. Serve: Store the finished Oreo Balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
