Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chunks

Instructions:

  1. Beat the softened butter with both brown and granulated sugars until the mixture looks pale and fluffy.
  2. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract, mixing on medium speed until the batter is smooth and glossy.
  3. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Mix on low speed just until the white streaks of flour disappear, taking care not to overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chunks by hand.
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9–11 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven when edges are set but centers still look slightly soft; let cool to reach a fudgy consistency.
