Ingredients:
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp (10g) baking powder
- 1 tsp (5g) salt
- 1 tbsp (12ml) vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp (16g) cornstarch
- 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp (30ml) heavy cream
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 2ml green gel food coloring
- 1 yellow star-shaped candy
- 1/4 cup (30g) multicolored nonpareil sprinkles
Instructions:
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Sift in the flour, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch. Mix on low until a soft dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll the chilled dough to 1/4 inch (6mm) thickness.
- Cut out an equal number of stars using different-sized cutters (e.g., 4 large, 4 medium, 4 small).
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are barely golden, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Mix powdered sugar, cream, vanilla, and green coloring until the icing is thick and holds a peak.
- Stack the cookies from largest to smallest, applying a dollop of royal icing between layers and rotating each layer 45 degrees.
- Top with a yellow star candy and decorate with nonpareil sprinkles.
